Prepared for the freeze?

We added hay to our "spring" garden because spring has definitely not sprung!  We also have a 25 foot row of peas in the ground.  The weather man is predicting a 25 degree low tonight and 24 degree low tomorrow.  I've heard that a little frost makes kale sweeter, but this is too much.

  1. It's not looking good. Thankfully the ground didn't freeze. Hopefully we'll only loose a few leaves.

This weather has just been awful. Hopefully we will only have a few more cold nights and maybe then spring will finally arrive!!

  3. Congratulations Robyn! Thanks for becoming our bold, first follower. I love your blog, and the fact that we're in the same zone. Since we discovered you, we find ourselves often following your lead in this wonderful gardening adventure. When will you plant that broccoli anyway? We have about 15 or 20 plants under lights just waiting to go outside.

  4. Your welcome Jody. I'm going to play it by ear with regard to planting the broccoli. Hopefully the 10 day forecast will remain good and I can plant the cabbage & broccoli by next weekend. We shall see...they really need to be planted soon!

  5. Boy you really are catching up on garden blogs. What a great way to spend a sick day! Good for you. Yes the bags worked wonderfully. Those plants endured almost two weeks of freezing weather. Some of their leaves were lost, but the plants thrived over all. The kale has already given us 34 pounds (about 6 or 8 plants) and is still producing. We also got 11 pounds of romaine, 22 pounds of cabbage and just over 2 pounds of spinach. Needless to say, we're going to plant early again next year.
