Amending the Soil

This week we finished cutting in the rows of our garden. We ended up with 9 rows x 25'. I amended the soil with composted manure and straw.  Our soil is a little low on potash, but otherwise very rich in nutrients. We burned wood in the garden last fall to bring the potash level up with charcoal. We'll keep burning fires in the off season. We also have Fertrell 1, liquid "Plant Food from the Sea", 4-1-1. Maybe I should soak our plants with it when we transplant, but we've had such great success in this garden the last couple of years. I'm not sure I need to. My dad's voice keeps filling my head, "If it ain't broke Jody don't try'n fix it". What to do, bother, what to do?

  1. Just do whatever comes into your head at the moment. That's how I always garden. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but that's gardening for ya!

  2. I usually go with my gut too. It's always trial and error and mother nature!

  3. Annie's Granny and Robin, I'm taking your advice and going with my gut, or my head or my heart. Whatever you call it, I'm going with it! Thanks for posting.
