Strawberry Wine

We went from this in June...

To this...

 To this...

Then to a 5 gallon carboy pictured here.

Finally yesterday we finished with this!
This 5 gallon batch made 26 bottles.

Isn't that a lovely color? Strawberry wine can have an unappealing brown color, but not this stuff. We used 10 quarts of strawberries to make this batch, and the redness stayed strong.

Of course we had to sample it. It's very tasty!  We have read that it's good to let strawberry wine go for 2 years. I'm sure that's a great idea, but holy cow! That would mean June of 2013. There's no hope, because we tasted it. We're like a mountain lion that got a taste for the rancher's cattle. The only way to keep us away now is to shoot us!

  1. Oh wow! That strawberry wine looks wonderful. It may go through some bottle shock for a bit, but I don't think I could wait too years after tasting such nectar either.

  8. I am extremely jealous! My favorite is blackberry wine, but strawberry is a close second.

2 years? Psh. If I were you, I would just pretend I misread that and convince myself it said 2 months... maybe 2 weeks? :)

  9. GrafixMuse, you sound like you've made a little wine yourself. Isn't nectar the perfect word!

Becky, there's this thing about making wine that not many people know. It's very, very easy! I think you should give it a try.

MKgirl, I really doubt we'll make it that long. Having other batches to choose from will make it a little easier though.

Robin, thanks. Two years is a long time.

Ginny, I know you can do it.

Apple pie gal, you said it. I think we could make that our motto around here!

Mrs. Pickles, thanks. I've never heard of Saskatoon berry wine, it sounds exciting. I hope you post about it.

Prairie Cat, we've really only made apple and peach. They were both great. This is our first time making strawberry. It sure tastes great already. We could open a bottle and enjoy it already!

  11. ooooh! Love strawberry wine, and plum, and blackberry and.... I think I'd save just one bottle to sample after two years and see how you like it! I know a lot of things mellow out and get smoother as they age.
