Harvest Monday

This week we thinned Large Leaf Round mache, Paris Island romaine, and Red Sails lettuce, and we harvested Giant Winter spinach.  Giant Winter gave us 1 pound and 3 ounces! It's our first really big haul of this variety. Belle made a delicious spinach salad with almond slices, strawberries and poppy seed dressing.

There's plenty of watering going on around here! Day by day it keeps almost raining, but nothing gives.

C. James watering the cauliflower in the main garden. Our chicken tractors and compost bins are behind him. If you look closely you can see the garlic bed coming along nicely.

Stop by Daphne's Dandelions for Harvest Monday to see what other gardeners are harvesting throughout the world.  Happy gardening!

    1. Yea, that would be great. Our strawberries are still in the flowering stage. They won't come in until until late May, I think.

  3. I'm enjoying Salad season as well!! Yum. I don't know where your rain has been but today was a super soaker. Im glad it would occasionally let up so the standing water could reseed before it came back. :/

    1. The broccoli looks fabulous in our garden now! Guess we were correct about planting it super early. You mentioned about doing the same last year I think.

    2. Our rain came last night. It's raining hard now. I'm so glad to hear that your broccoli is doing well! We waited to put ours out an extra couple of weeks. There was less worry and labor, but we won't get the pay-off you're going to get for putting them in early. Nice job!

    1. It was our jealousy of other gardeners greens last year that caused us to put a bigger focus on it this year. We still feel like we could do even more!

  5. I've never used strawberries in a salad before. I'm hoping to grow a lot more this year so perhaps I'll get the oppoprtunity to try it.

  6. That looks delicious. I noticed my strawberries are almost there. I hadn't thought about putting them on a salad, but that would be tasty.

  8. Our strawberries are flowering but we are several weeks away yet from having any to toss on a salad like that. Sure looks yummy though and making me wish they would hurry up. Nice harvest this week!
