Harvest Monday

For this Harvest Monday we have fall broccoli and a bag of mystery veggies! For the Broccoli, we harvested 8 lbs and 4 ounces. We're very glad to have a winter stock.

The big one!
We harvested the broccoli 2 weeks ago. But tonight, after work and after getting the kids down and after, after, after we checked the weather and the  forecast says we're going to have a hard freeze. So Belle and I against all creaturely comforts (Yes I'm talking about that glass of wine we left behind on the counter) traipsed out into the garden in the dark and cut down the cabbage and the cauliflower plants. That's what's in the bags! You'll have to wait until "Harvest Monday" next week to see what we got.
The mystery bags: cauliflower and cabbage, yet to be weighed and processed.

Stop by Daphne's Dandelions and see what other gardeners are harvesting around the world.

  1. I did the same thing today since it is supposed to get down to 24F tonight. But for me it was the celery. I have it in my fridge now waiting to get chopped and frozen. I hope my broccoli survives the freeze. It is under a row cover.

    1. It's 20 days later now and the temps are only now consistently freezing! We have lettuce that keeps on growing under plastic. I'm on a huge learning curve, to say the least.

  2. Daphne, your comment warms my heart on a cold *27 degrees here) night! In my limited experience, and I think you know, your broccoli will be fine. It's the cauliflower and the cabbage that can't hang with the freezing weather. And you were right to get the celery, because when we were out there tonight, it was already freezing! BTW, we're still on a learning curve with celery. What variety do you use for the fall?

    1. We have been enjoying the wine. Thank you. And our friends too. Strangely, the cold hasn't really yet descended. It seems now to be coming, almost an entire month later. Odd!

  4. Looks like some cauliflower in one of those mystery bags! The broccoli harvest is beautiful. Good work on growing such a nice crop of it.

    1. Hi Malay-Kadazan girl thanks for commenting, especially after 20 days since the post. The mystery bag was cabbage and cauliflower which we've been enjoying. I look forward to what will grow well in your new garden.
