June Harvest Totals

We're slowly but steadily entering into the heavy harvesting season. June was mostly lettuce and spinach. The brassicas are also in now. Our broccoli harvest was a bust. Out of 20 or so plants we harvested barely more than a pound. The cauliflower did very well. We gathered 5 pounds and 12 ounces. We'll harvest the cabbage on Saturday. We have also had an excellent celery and pea crop. The berries are doing well, and we are very pleased with our first-time turnip harvest. Our totals for the month of June are listed below. Happy Gardening!

Most of this cauliflower will be blended into mashed potatoes. It's a very healthy way to moisten the potatoes. You don't really even need to use butter. Although we might want to anyway!
June Totals

Broccoli                              1 lb. 4 oz. (a terrible harvest this time)
Cauliflower                          6 lb. 1 oz. (frozen for mashed potatoes)

Kale                                    2 lb. 6 oz. (blanched frozen for use in soups and smoothies)
Lettuce                              13 lb. 5 oz. (the boys sold much of this and earned almost $100!)
Peas                                   5 lb. 14 oz. (gobbled up!)

  1. Wow lots of lettuce. Too bad about the broccoli. I've had years without much too. Now I'm just hoping that the main head is ripe before I leave.

  2. Yea, almost too much. If it weren't for the boys selling it, we'd have to throw it out. There's still lots more in the fridge. We'll share the rest with friends I guess.

  3. I lost all but two of my broccoli plants to cutworms, so it's been a very small harvest for me too. I did replant, so if our upcoming heatwave doesn't kill them off, maybe I'll get a bit more.

    1. So have we been impressed! They have their own savings accounts and love going to the bank to make deposits. I could follow their example myself!
