Harvest Monday

We've been anticipating this harvest with some uncertainty but also eagerness. We've been waiting and waiting for cauliflower. We've been wondering about the heat spells, just not sure that spring cauliflower was even possible. This morning we cut 12 heads of cauliflower weighing a total of  6 pounds 10 ounces. Our smallest head was just an ounce, and our biggest was just over a pound. Bel will blanch and freeze them for mixing with mashed potatoes (just one of our covert ways to get the kids to eat their vegetables). We also harvested a pound and a half of peas and various herbs for cooking.

The largest heads are about 5 inches across.

Be sure to visit Daphne's Dandelions to see what people are harvesting all over the world!

Cauliflower Harvest

Today we harvested 4 lovely cauliflower heads. I can't wait to see what Bel comes up with for dinner. Sometimes she blends it into mashed potatoes to add texture and flavor... Mmmm. We have several plants without heads still. I don't know if it will be to warm to get anything from them or not.
