Rain Barrel Placement

Today I took the day off with my family to cut an area into the ground below our deck where we'll store rain water for the garden. All the digging took around 3 or 4 hours.  I’m sore, but I know my hard working Irish girl shoveled more dirt than I did.  The boys certainly did their part too!  We'll use the top soil pile for a new potato patch.

  1. Boy, you are lucky to have all those helpers!! It looks like you made some progress and are putting the top soil to good use. All that work will help get you into shape for gardening season!

  2. Yes, helpers. That's right! All that work is what I need. I can sure use the exercise. The top soil we dug has some clay. Do you know, does adding sand to soil with too much clay help, or is there some other solution?

  3. Yes, sand will help. A combination of materials will be most beneficial. Just add whatever good materials you can get your hands on without breaking the bank..compost, manure, peat moss, mulch

  4. Dude. Those are some serious containers. LOL Apparently you don't get rain every day at 3pm on the clock like we do.

  5. No we don't get rain everyday at 3:00. We get what amounts to that; only it all comes in a single storm somewhere in the middle of May. BTW, aren't you closer to the equator than you are to me! How's the orange tree holding up in your front yard? Yes, I confess. I'm envious!
