Frozen Fruit Pops and a New Follower

We want first to welcome our newest follower Annie's Granny.  We love your blog and are so glad you've joined us. We hope to keep you coming back for more and more of our wonderful gardening adventures.

Today Bel made blueberry-peach frozen smoothie pops for the boys. The ingredients are very simple. She pulled some of last year's fruit harvest from the freezer, used agave sweetener and added a little lemon juice to keep the colors bright.  We've read that agave is much easier on the body than cane. It's very sweet, much lighter than honey, and has a wonderful caramel like flavor. The boys love it on their oatmeal, and I love it in my coffee.

Bel has discovered that the trick to vacuum packing is to freeze the fruit on trays first. It eliminates the problem of clogging the machine with moisture.
Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Blue Agave from Costco.
Twenty minutes prep time for the pops, provides twenty-three minutes of quiet time for mom. Ahhhh...

Blueberry-Peach Smoothie Pops

1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1/3 cup sugar or 1/4 cup agave nectar

In a blender puree all the ingredients, pour into molds and freeze until firm.

  4. What a good idea for Alicyn, the granddaughter who spends her Fridays with us! That child won't eat anything, but I'll bet she's eat those. Thank you for posting the recipe....and thank you for the welcome!

  5. Hi Carpe Diem, I'm sure your daughter will love them too.

Hi Katrina, Bel loves our sealer too. It saves so much food and time.

Hi Ginny, I love those pops. I just hope I get one before they disappear.

Annie's Granny welcome to our blog. We love reading your posts. I'll bet Alicyn loves Fridays at your place. Our two year old is the same way about food. We try to follow our pediatricians advice. He says, let him say whether he'll eat and only as much he wants, but you get to say when it's time to eat an what it will be! We're not always consistent, but it's a good way to approach him.

  6. Alicyn had a frozen fruit pop and toast for breakfast. The fruit pop was really large, I only had little Dixie cups in which to freeze them, but it was a hit. She couldn't eat the entire pop, but she did take several bites once it thawed enough to bite into it. I had to make a few substitutions, as I didn't have peaches. I made them with canned apricots, blueberries and a bit of yogurt (that tamed down the strong flavor of the apricots).

  7. Annie's Granny, That's so cool. To bad we're 2600 miles apart, we could plan a play-date! I bet she's the highlight of your week. Enjoy.
