Harvest Monday

This week we for Daphne's Dandelions Harvest Monday we gathered 2 more ounces of asparagus and 3.5 ounces of romaine.  The romaine will make a nice salad for dinner.

We planted this little garden right next to our back door on March 18th. It suffered several freezing nights and frost but is now thriving!  From the left we have onions (against the wall), spinach, cabbage, kale and romaine. The romaine is about 6 or 7 inches tall now.

  4. A white picket fence around a garden: perfect! I didn't do well on the asparagus...guess it needs another year. The romaine looks like it's just waiting to be in a nice Caesar Salad!

  5. Hi Ginny, thanks I was worried the garden wouldn't survive, but now we're really enjoying it.

Hi Katrina, thank you. We think so too!

Hi Robin, we planted romaine because it keeps well in the fridge. We'll bag it in 3 packs in plastic and refrigerate it. I expect it to last more than a couple weeks that way.

Hi Lynda, our neighbors gave us the fence. When we're not using it, it roles up like a sleeping bag for easy storage.

  6. Don't you just love having a garden right out your back door? My last garden was on the side and I had to walk a bit to get to it. But the current ones is right out the kitchen door. The kitchen door is even inside the garden fence.

  7. Hi Daphne, we love the close garden too. Everybody who comes to our door sees it, because it's the only convenient way into our house. Mostly people are surprised that anybody could have vegetables growing this early in the year. We've surprised ourselves!
