Harvest Monday

It's very late, but technically speaking it's still Monday! I hope it stays "still Monday" 'till I finish this post. It's a strange work schedule that causes me to regularly post so late on Mondays. This time we're actually on vacation, so it's even later than usual. We're in Daphne's neck of the woods. So we just can't miss Harvest Monday! Hopefully, we'll get to see her and her beautiful garden. Oh, yes! Stop by her blog and see what other gardeners are harvesting around the world.

For our harvest this week, this is what we gathered. From seeds sent by Dave at Our Happy Acres, we gathered Giant Leaf and Viroflay spinach, mache, komatsuna and Flashy Trout Back lettuce (most of which we sold to "The Green Room" restaurant in Carlisle, because we're on vacation and can't eat it ourselves). From seeds sent from Daphne at, you guessed it, Daphne's Dandelions we harvested Little Gem romaine, Parris Island romaine (Daphne knows we love romaine!) and Red Sails red leaf lettuce. We also harvested arugula, strawberries and broccoli. So here's a few pictures and... sorry totals are in the captions, 'cause it's just too late.

Weekly total: 35 lb 4 oz

Flashy Trout Back lettuce. It's a little needy, but well worth the care: 3 lb (on the dot).
Our first year with heritage variety broccoli exclusively. There's a difference, I won't try to explain, except to say we're glad it's sustainable and we're expecting we'll get enough: 1 lb 5 oz
A snapshot of what we've gathered this week. Belle ain't bored! Spinach 6 lb 2 oz; romaine 3 lb 9 oz; lettuce 2 lb 12 oz; arugula 1 lb; komatsuna 4 lb; mache 2 lb 8 oz;  kale 2 lb 8 oz; Rainbow chard 1 lb 4 oz; strawberries 7 lb 11 oz. Sorry no totals tonight. It's 12:09, officially Tuesday, but I'm still calling this one "Harvest Monday"!

    1. This is our first year trying it. We like the way it looks. It takes extra care to grow. We think it's worth it really.
